Scripts and Programming
We mention "scripts"
and "programming" in several places throughout this
site. But what are they?
It's easier to begin by explaining what
they are not. Most web sites are created through a combination
of HTML (which is a simple code that all computers can read)
and images. For most sites that is enough. It allows the displaying
of images, navigation through a site by clicking on links,
and reading text.
Most additional features, like search abilities,
databases, interactive animation, online purchases, audio
or video clips . . . all require programming. A "script"
is just a piece of pre-packaged programming code.
